Hello Friends!

As you probably imagined reading the post’s title, today’s post is written for those of you who are planning a trip in New York. I don’t want to tell you what seeing or not because I’m not a travel guide and, more important, the places to visit are strictly related to your personal interests.

The purpose of this post is to share with you some tricks that probably you don’t find in the official guides, but that can be really helpful for fully enjoy your days in the Big Apple.

Few “saving time – saving money” tricks

• During the planning of your trip, my suggestion is to consider if it could be convenient to buy the “City Pass”. They are a carnet of tickets for the most popular attractions which can allow you to save money, with special prices, and to save your time as well. Indeed for many attraction, for example for visiting the Empire State Building, are available exclusive lines for the owners of these special carnet.
• Tickets: if you can I suggest to buy tickets in advance end to buy them online. Buy tickets in advance allows you to save your time because you can skip the lines. A day in advance is enough because you can know and consider the weather conditions. The best strategy is to buy the tickets the day (or few hours) before the planned visit. For some attractions the weather is really important, think about it: the view from the Empire State Building can be ruined by a cloudy or rainy days…. So let’s check the weather forecast!
• If you have not enough time for visiting all the neighborhoods, but you want to bite a little pieces of all of them, the best way for doing it are the turistic busses. If you are able to be at the starting point in time you can grab a special place in the roof of the bus and it could grant you a very special and uncommon view of the city. Another strength point of the turistic busses is the “unlimited Drop on – Drop Off acces”. It means that you can leave the bus at any stops and you can take the next one for finishing the tour. There are several option for the round trip and here the website of the most popular turistic bus company, for buying tickets and for seeing the seasonal offers.
• One of the best attraction is the cirle line cruises. This special cruise is a round trip starting from downtown and passes below the 3 most famous bridges (Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge and Williamsburg Bridge) and comes back. I participated at one of this cruises and I should admit that it was an amazing experience. But few years later I figured out that you can experiment the same experience spending $ 4.00 instead more than $ 40.00 using the ferry boat available on both side of Manhattan. Indeed you can have an awesome east river trip using the east river ferry boat: for $ 4 you start from 33rd street and you sail until downtown (here the post where I showed you this experience I made on the east side). In my opinion, the ferry boat is the best way to go to and from Brooklyn especially if you love to travel with a special view of the city.
• Souvenirs: there are a tons of souvenir shop only in Manhattan. They are all the same, they have the same goods everything is the same! the only differences are the prices. A classic I Love NY T-Shirt, for example, will cost $ 10.00 on the Fifth avenue, with the same amount of money on the 8th or 9th avenue you could buy 3 of the very same T-Shirts… So pay attention!

Considering the huge amount of people who lives, works or visits New York at the same time, the city is quite clean. By the way, because of the trash collection method, the enormous amount of garbage that is produced each day New York is the heaven for some disgusting creatures, especially Rats and Roaches. In addition of the “garbage problem” New York is a perfect place for a lot of animal because the ground is an intricate web of subway tunnels that grant a safe and warm place for rats roaches and much more. For this reason you should n’t be surprised if a giant rat (bigger than a cat) cross the subways platform or rails, at the same it is really common to see a lot of rats in the street or in the park. At the end roaches are huge and pretty much everywhere… but these animal are new yorkers as well, and new york people are confident with them and they are not scared about them. Roach and rats are part of the city!

What I really think about New York? I think that it is a magic city that everyone should visit at least one time. New York City has the best good vibrations I ever feel, it is continuous changing, it is always growing each day. For me is the best city where I’m completely free, completely live where I can be myself in the way I want, when I want and where I can do everything I want without to worry about the judgment of others… noone cares about what I do and I love it! My only limits are the limits I decide to put on my own way! New York is the place of opportunities, is a no limit place, is a place where you can decide who you want to be and you can be a different person each days….

The major lesson New York City gives to me is the following: The question you should ask \ is not “WHY?” The real question for the life is “WHY NOT?” . From my point of view this is the most amazing way to see the world, and New York is the only place where this is the way it is!

I had the honor to live in New York for more than one year, and I should admit that leaving New York was not easy at all. It was like left a old friend and a part of me…

Although the change was amazing for me, even in this days sometime I think about New York and about the person I used to be there and I miss a little that person who remained in the New York’s streets.
